Mr. Foster has lived nearly his entire life in DeKalb County, Illinois. He graduated from Northern Illinois University (BA in Psychology 1974) and attended law school at IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law where he served as the Managing Editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and graduated with High Honors in 1979. Mr. Foster’s legal career started with this firm in 1979. He also served as a part time Assistant State's Attorney from 1982-1985 and as the DeKalb County State’s Attorney on an interim basis during 2009 by appointment of the Chief Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit. Mr. Foster is admitted to the Bar in Illinois and in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. He is a member and past President of the DeKalb County Bar Association and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
After nearly 45 years as a general practitioner, Mr. Foster has narrowed the focus of his practice to several key areas, including Municipal Law—representing numerous cities, villages, and special taxing districts—Estate Planning and Administration, Farm and Commercial Real Estate, and Business and Commercial Law.
Mr. Foster is an active participant in national seminars, forums, and conferences for estate planning professionals, and he is a frequent speaker at events covering Estate Planning, Agricultural Law, and Business Succession Planning. His municipal practice includes all aspects of representation, from litigation to labor negotiations and arbitration. He also represents a wide range of farmers and agricultural businesses across the region and regularly negotiates wind and solar energy leases on their behalf.
Throughout his career, Mr. Foster has successfully managed numerous complex and high-stakes matters involving significant financial, business, and personal considerations. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, he ensures that documentation is prepared using the most current concepts and terminology in accordance with up-to-date laws and regulations related to taxation, trusts and estates, business entities, and more. Working closely with Financial Planners, CPAs, Insurance Agents, and Trust Officers, Mr. Foster provides his clients with comprehensive support—addressing both long-term estate and business planning as well as immediate needs related to business transactions and estate and trust administration.
