Kevin Buick has practiced law for this firm since 1990. He attended Northern Illinois University College of Law and completed his undergraduate work at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He became a partner in the firm in 1994.  As a general practice lawyer in the DeKalb County community for over three decades, he has handled a wide variety of legal matters for his clients including estate planning and administration, real estate, business, zoning/land use, and municipal law. Over the years he has represented several local governments and public bodies, including the Villages of Kingston, Malta, Maple Park, and Waterman, the Town of Cortland, the City of Sandwich, Shabbona Township, Clinton Township, and various subsidiary bodies including the Plan Commission, the Fire and Police Commission, and the Liquor Commissioner for the City of Sycamore. He is a former zoning hearing officer for the County of DeKalb, having served that position for ten years.

He grew up in northern Illinois, living in DeKalb County until his family relocated to the northwest suburbs of Chicago and then eventually out to the State of Colorado while he was in high school. Kevin graduated from high school outside of Vail, Colorado, and spent summers during his college years working on his family’s cattle ranch outside of Silt on the Western Slope. He remains a winter sports enthusiast (particularly skiing and hockey) and acknowledges the superior opportunities that Colorado seasonably offers but is happy to have re-settled in the Midwest. Since his return to DeKalb County in 1987, he has been actively involved in the community, working with local charities and community organizations, especially in his hometown of Sycamore. He is a past President of the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce and currently serves as the Chamber’s legal counsel. He has served on several not-for-profit boards, including the DeKalb County Community Foundation, Family Service Agency of DeKalb County, Opportunity House, C.A.S.A. of DeKalb County, Pay It Forward House, NFP, Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Club, and the DeKalb County Board of Health. He is a former President of the DeKalb County Bar Association.

Kevin has recently expanded his estate planning practice and is available for consultation by appointment.
